Principal's Note

You would be aware that from 11.59pm yesterday, Victoria returned to Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions for seven days. There will only be five reasons to leave the house: shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise, work/study, or to be vaccinated.

The Victorian Government has stated that Early Learning Centres will remain open, but students from Prep to Year 12 will not attend school from Friday 28th May to Thursday 3rd June. Classes will resume on-site on Friday 4th June, and all students will be expected to attend from this date.

Our teachers will be delivering a remote-learning program from Monday 31st May. Today (Friday 28th May) is a student free day, to give teachers time to prepare for remote-learning.

For Years 7-10, our remote-learning program will aim to keep students engaged with their learning, and might include online activities or working on assessment tasks. All Year 7-10 students will have an online check-in with their Gateway teacher via MS Teams on Monday or Tuesday.

For VCE students, we will be running a full remote-learning program, and students will be continuing with their regular curriculum. This may include some live lessons during their regularly timetabled classes, and may also include some independent work. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel Year 11 mid-year exams, and any SACs which were scheduled during this time have been postponed.

If any students needs any help during remote-learning, please encourage them to contact the relevant teacher via email/Compass or Microsoft Teams. Students have also received information about how to contact sub-school and our Wellbeing Team if necessary.

If students need IT support, they should contact their Gateway teacher who will put them in contact with our IT Team. If your child can’t access the school’s IT systems at all, please call the school on 9872-6839 and our IT Team will assist.

As occurred last term during the lockdown, on-site supervision will be available next week ONLY for vulnerable students and the students of essential workers for whom there is no stay-at-home option.

Thank you for support and stay safe. I look forward to seeing everyone on Campus as soon as possible.

Cheers

Pete Hanratty

College Principal.

Division Swimming Carnival

Despite our school Swimming Carnival being cancelled, Fountain Gate Secondary College had a very small group of keen swimmers to compete at the Division Swimming Carnival, held in Doveton! As always with the Swimming Carnivals, the weather was not the best, however as Miss Craig said to the students, “It’s warmer inside the pool than it is outside, so you may as well get in”.

Our students represented FGSC with pride and it was great to see our students encouraging the participation of others within the Division. We had some really great results from the day that enabled some swimmers to progress through to the Regional Swimming Championships.

Congratulations to all swimmers. We would like to recognise the following students for their outstanding achievements, either placing 1st-3rd and proceeded through to the Regional Championships.

Abbey Van Der Linde (Year 7 )

Chanel Nicolopoulos (Year 8 )

Jackson Nealie (Year 8 )

Kyana Gordon (Year 8 )

Harley Kerr (Year 9 )

Bethany Van Der Linde (Year 10 )

It was a fantastic day out and we hope to encourage more students to participate next year!
