Principal's Report Term 1 2025
Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the 2025 school year. I would like to extend a special welcome to our Year 7 students and families. Meeting with many of you during our Orientation Day, Year 7 Welcome Breakfast and the Year 7 Start-up Program was a pleasure. A warm welcome also to our new students and families in Years 8 – 12 who have joined our college community this year. It has been very enjoyable spending some time out in the yard and at the gates in the morning meeting with students. I am looking forward to getting into some classes over the comings weeks to see some learning.
I sincerely thank all the students and staff for making the start of 2025 a smooth and successful one.

Additional Victorian Certificate of Education Success Data
In 2023, Fountain Gate SC achieved a significant milestone by introducing multiple Senior Pathways. This initiative was paramount to our senior students as it eliminated the need to redirect them to an external setting for access to vocational pathways aligned with their needs and aspirations. Instead, they could pursue their chosen pathways right here at FGSC. Our 2024 cohort were the first to fully embrace this initiative, demonstrating significant improvement across the board.
We are thrilled to celebrate and share their outstanding achievements:
- The number of students enrolled in a Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Vocational Education & Training (VET) Certificate in 2024 was 337, which is an increase of 93% from 2023.
- The percentage of VET units of competency completed in 2024 was 85% which is an increase of 18% from 2023
- Average Study Score – 28.73 (2023 was 26.88)
- Average ATAR – 63.21 (2023 was 59.76)
- Percentage of study scores of 40 and over – 1.8% which is an increase of 0.3% from 2023.
- 98% of students received an offer for further education
Improved NAPLAN results:
- Year 9 Reading: More students in ‘Exceeding’ or ‘Strong’, and fewer students in ‘Needs Additional Support’
- Year 9 Writing: More students in ‘Exceeding’ or ‘Strong’, and fewer students in ‘Needs Additional Support’
- Year 9 Numeracy: Fewer students in ‘Needs Additional Support’
Welcome Assistant Principal Mr Craig Allender
I am pleased to introduce Mr Craig Allender, who has been appointed as School Operations Assistant Principal, joining our committed team at Fountain Gate Secondary College in 2025. With extensive experience as an Assistant Principal, Mr Allender brings expertise in school leadership and strategic planning, with a strong commitment to cultivating a culture of growth, collaboration and an inclusive and supportive environment for students, staff, and the broader school community.
2025 School Captains
Our College Captains in 2025 are Moustafa Mohannade and Paige Atkinson. Gurdish Singh and Mahnaz Akbari are our College Vice Captains. Congratulations to these students on being appointed to these important roles. I look forward to working with our captains and the broader student leadership team in 2025.
Year 7 Start Up Program
The Year 7 Start-Up Program which ran over three days, enables our Year 7 students drawn from multiple primary schools to build relationships with their new cohort of peers and staff. It also aims to help students understand College expectations for learning and wellbeing.
2025 School Expectations, Routines and Reminders
I would like to remind families and students that our high expectations come with equally high levels of support. Our College offers various avenues of assistance to families and students facing hardship to ensure that every student has access to the required books and materials for learning and the correct school uniform. I also encourage you to take advantage of the $400 School Saving Bonus initiative to help cover the cost of uniforms, textbooks, excursions and activities.
Please contact your child’s Year Level Hub for assistance if you need support.
We’re committed to ensuring every student has what they need to thrive and succeed, and we are here to help.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our College.
Stay safe, and best wishes,
Jo Cucchiara
