Year 7 Deakin University Art Excursion
On Friday 7th of March, 7B and 7F Art students went on an excursion to the Deakin University Art Gallery where they were engaged in a day filled with exploration, hands-on activities, and creative thinking.
The day began with a guided tour of the "50 Years of Collecting" exhibition, where students learned about various artworks, their materials, and the significance of curation. They then ventured outside for a sculpture walk, where they examined large-scale public art pieces and participated in interactive discussions.
The highlight for many was the art workshop, where students created their own sculptures using recycled materials. This hands-on experience allowed them to express their creativity while gaining a deeper appreciation for the artistic process.
The enthusiasm from our students was evident in their reflections:
“I loved Deakin Uni! I thought we were only going to look at art, but it turns out we made art too! I hope I can go back one day.” – Jennifer A, 7F
“Best day ever!” – Sabina L, 7B
“The art activities made me curious and happy. I was surprised to learn I’m better at drawing with my left hand!” – Aaliyah F, 7B
“I really liked the sculpture walk—it was super mysterious and fun.” – Yash A, 7B
“I learned that the natural oil on our fingers can destroy the painting.” – Brie L,7B
A huge thank you to Deakin University, for making this such an enriching experience for our students.
We look forward to more creative adventures at Deakin in the future!
