Careers and Pathways

Careers and pathways advice is becoming increasingly important in education. in year 10, ‘pathways’ advice is closely associated with the ‘managed individual pathways’ (MIPS) program which is provided for all students over 15 years of age. career action plans are also being embedded across years 7-12

The program is designed to assist all students in identifying the occupation or course of further study which would be best for them. Students in other year levels will complete a Career Action Plan with a Home Group teacher during Home Group and class time. The focus will be goal setting, both academically and pathways focused. This means that all students at Year 10 and some Year 9 students will have an individual interview with a Careers Counsellor to develop their MIP’s plan.

The well resourced Careers Room at Fountain Gate Secondary College is found in G2. Students are welcome to visit the Careers Room during recess and lunch times to look at the resources, ask for advice or information, or to arrange an appointment with the Careers Team.

All Year 10 students participate in the School Work Experience Program during Term Two each year and the Mock Interview Program. This provides students with a wonderful opportunity to experience the ‘real world of work’.

The Careers Team can also assist students to create resumes, find work placements or part-time work in the local community.
