Week 8 of Term 1 was Cultural Diversity Week across Victoria, and this was celebrated with great pride and enthusiasm by staff and students at Fountain Gate Secondary College.
Orange ribbons are recognised as symbols of support for cultural diversity, and these were worn by hundreds of members of our school community throughout the week. In addition, the following workshops occurred at lunchtimes: ‘Heena Hand Painting’, ‘Cultural Art Activities’, ‘Afghan Dancing’, ‘Chinese Tea Ceremony’, ‘German Barbecue’, ‘Soccer Match’, ‘Greek Dancing’, ‘How to Make Designer Fried Rice’ and ‘Samoan Song and Dance’.
This year our school canteen was involved in the celebrations, making a delicious array of international foods and featuring a different nationality each day of the week. On Friday, the week culminated with Cultural Dress Day, in which staff and students came dressed in traditional clothing, and students performed in an amazing lunchtime cultural concert.
