2017 has been a successful and rewarding year for our entire school community. In any large organisation staff come and go. I would like to wish the following staff who are leaving all the best, these being Marieke Ballagh, Jan Baulch, Steve Branson, Jarrad Donders, Ren Downing, Voula Geogakoloulos, Paige Magnano, Lannhi Nguyen, Jason Rolfe, Ysen Selimovski, Sarah Tchantcho, Jamie Towsey and Peter Zagarn.
Our new Year 7 students for 2018 attended a two-day Orientation Program on December 12th and 13th. They spent the time getting to know their teachers and familiarizing themselves with their new environment. We welcome our new students and look forward to getting to know them in 2018.
The Middle Sub School has been responsible for organising the Year 9 Futures Program under the leadership of Miss Miller. The program is designed to encourage students to start thinking about the future pathways i.e. work experience, casual jobs, career pathways etc.
Staff from the College attended a series of tours to visit other Tech Schools and some of our important industry and community partners. The group visited the Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC), Casey and Cardinia Business Hub and St John of God’s new Hospital. The final site visited was the impressive Yarra Ranges Tech School.
Feedback from College staff was that these experiential learning tours were well-received, enjoyable, and contextually relevant for better understanding the evolution of our own STEM centre.
Following on from the tours, the Professional Learning has continued for eight Teacher Champions (including our very own Ms Elizabeth Goldberg) who have generously given of their time to work on curriculum development for our early programs. Aligned with real-world problems experienced by our focus industry areas and partners, the Champions have been imagining and innovating through UbD curriculum and PBL to help bring these concepts to life as engaging and authentic learning experiences for our future students.
College staff have commenced working on the curriculum and pedagogical learning in Project-Based Learning (PBL) and the Understanding by Design (UbD) Curriculum Framework which will be an element of our STEM program.
Construction is scheduled to commence early January, 2018. We eagerly anticipate a smooth and hassle-free project, with little disturbance to our students. The STEM centre will be completed by the end of Term 3 next year.
November saw the recruitment of key members of our Learning Specialist team. All highly qualified, innovative and experienced in their fields, we welcome Michael Street (STEM Leader), Amy Mraz (STEM Learning Specialist), Nicole Tritter (STEM Learning Specialist), Lauren Waters (English Learning Specialist) and Stacey Dannock (Mathematics Learning Specialist). Congratulations!

Christmas holidays can be fabulous for some, but often the sudden change of routine can lead to feelings of isolation, boredom and stress if students are not interacting with friends or family. Below is some important information for all parents to encourage and monitor their children’s mental wellbeing during the holidays.
Please encourage your children to stay active, keep in contact with their friends and eat a balanced diet. Limiting/monitoring screen time is highly recommended.
The Christmas holiday season is here again. I would like thank all staff, students and school council members for their hard work throughout the year. Best wishes for a safe and relaxing holiday. You all earned it!
I look forward to seeing you all when you return in 2018.
