VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase

On Monday the 17th of June, Fountain Gate Secondary College held its annual VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. Twenty-seven institutes set up in the gymnasium from higher education, TAFE and job service providers to offer students and parents with pathway options, booklets, gift bags and presentations. This included representatives from major Universities, Defence Australia, Victorian Police and local community groups.

It was amazing to see a lot of younger students attending the evening and taking the initiative to learn about the range of opportunities and possibilities available to them. We had students discover new potential pathways and passions, asking a range of mature and sophisticated questions to gauge a better understanding of their future pathways. Many students used this opportunity to discover their ‘what’s next’ whilst thinking about their pre-requisite studies for upcoming course counselling days and post-secondary school choices.
Following the showcase were multiple Pathway Presentations hosted by the Careers and Pathways Team and included guest speakers from our Alliance school, Hallam Secondary College and Headstart. This was attended by the Year 10 cohort to inform them on where they can take their studies next year, the subjects offered and how they can utilise the College’s relationship with Hallam Secondary College and Gleneagles Secondary College to fully gauge the breadths of subjects offered.

Additionally, our Alumni Presentation ran by Alumni Co-ordinator Ms. Gonzales and assisted by this year’s school Alumni Leader, Farishta Hussaini, welcomed Alisha Keyzer ’98, Megan Mulhall ’10, Dominique Cuschieri ’15 and Liam Sell ’16 who shared their post Year 12 stories. All presenters spoke highly of the College and reflected on the lessons they learned while at Fountain Gate Secondary College. The speakers spoke independently about the importance of mentors, a work-life balance and building a positive relationship with your teachers
We would like to thank everyone who supported the event. The feedback from students and the stall holders was absolutely fantastic and extremely positive We look forward to the knowledge and feedback being reflected in the career counselling that students undertake in Term 3 and 4. We cannot wait for the 2020 VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. See you next year!

2019 Mid- Year Concert

Fountain Gate Secondary College is proud to present our annual Mid-Year Concert featuring College Ensembles and Soloists from all year levels! This concert is dedicated to showcasing our students’ hard work and discipline towards their music learning outcomes and instruments.

Full-Steam Ahead Conference

What does a LEGO and Avengers Visual Effects Creator and Commonwealth Bank Process Analyse and Strategic Advisor have in common?

They had the opportunity to meet some of Fountain Gate Secondary College’s High Achievers and share with them their experiences, going through what was involved in following their passions, accepting failure and working hard, which ultimately lead to their dream jobs!

On the 12th of June, our Year 7 and 8 High Achiever classes participated in a National Video ‘Full STEAM Ahead Conference’. They were given the opportunity to connect with high-profile career professionals from the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM), and even shared in both virtual reality and robotic demonstrations.

The students were captivated throughout and were left with the take-home message to find your passions and turn them into your future!

Fountain Gate Secondary College’s first ever VCE Discovery Day!

The Year 10 cohort spent Wednesday learning about their potential Senior School Pathways as they were taken through the variety of subjects that they can study in VCE next year. The College dedicated the day to presentations and interactive workshops to help inform students on how they can curate their studies and tailor this not only to the next two years, but career pathways. A few highlights included the interactive green screen in the media presentation and the folio examples from past art students. Subjects included Legal Studies, Accounting, English, Specialist Maths, Economics, Biology and Physics and more!

DOXA Pathway and University Programs

Fountain Gate Secondary College would like to thank Lindsey Grenet and her team at DOXA for continuously inspiring and supporting our students with both the University Pathway and University Discovery Programs. These programs have been fantastically valuable to our students and have provided them with an immense amount of insight and direction in their future pathways. You have impacted their lives in such beneficial ways, and for that we cannot thank you enough.

Great Gatsby Showcase

After 20 weeks, 40 rehearsals, 16 set changes, 14 costume changes, long hours and a lot of hard work… the Theatre Studies Class of 2019 have put to rest their season of The Great Gatsby!

Students were excited to perform to a large turnout on opening night and to send off their characters with an intimate turnout on closing night. Thank you to all the students, parents and teachers involved in helping with the production, we are very grateful.

We look forward to having you all at our next production “The 39 Steps” on for one night only Thursday, July 25th!

Year 8 German Excursion

On Tuesday, the Year 8 German students had the opportunity to go to 'The Bavarian' restaurant in line with their German unit “Guten Appetit”. Throughout the term, students have learned how to say what foods and drinks they like, how much items cost, how to order food and how to conduct themselves in a café or restaurant speaking only German.

The restaurant excursion was a great opportunity for students to put into practice all of their hard work throughout the term. Students enjoyed a traditional Schnitzel in a German-themed setting. It was a great way to celebrate the conclusion of the unit. Gut gemacht!
