Year 12 Final Assembly and School Day

On the 21.10. 2019, our Year 12 students participated in a number of different celebrations and activities to cap off their final day spent at Fountain Gate Secondary College before exams. In the morning students were individually commended in a whole school assembly in front of their peers, teachers and families. Students proudly walked down to collect their Victorian Certificate of Education from Mr Pete Hanratty and our alum guests Maddison Patmore and Lasi Barsch. Their Head of Senior School, Lauren Waters, announced each student’s future ambitions, favourite subject and memory during their time at the College. There was a great selection of entertainment from our school band, Year 12’s singing a traditional ‘goodbye’ song and the Rugby boys completing the Haka.

Students then had a fantastic presentation from Nathan Hulls who provided great motivation and life advice for students. A number of Alum presenters also volunteered their time to share their best tips about the lead up to exams and what they did to achieve some great results. The students really enjoyed being able to ask questions and gain great advice from these guest presenters. The last period of the day saw the school captains Ngoc Tran and Nikita I present ‘student awards’ and ‘teacher awards’ much to the amusement of students. They finished the day by watching a video that reflected on their year, put together by student Jacob Eisho with help from the school captains. It was a great day for all students and we wish them the best of luck with their upcoming exams!

Year 12 Celebration Day

On the 22.10.19, our Year 12 students had their ‘Celebration Day’ to complete their pre-exam school celebrations. Students had the great pleasure of dressing up in the theme of ‘what I want to be when I grow up and came dressed as tradies, pilots, angels and even M&Ms! The students were thrilled with their teachers who also came dressed up… as students!
Students traveled to 'Jump Crazy' in Pakenham where they had great fun jumping, playing dodgeball and going through the inflatable obstacle course. From there, students traveled to Wilson Botanic Park where they had a pizza lunch, kicked the footy and soccer balls around and had a mini dance party in the sunshine. Oz Tenpin Bowling followed in Narre Warren where they had a great time versing each other to see who the best and worst bowlers were in their team. The day was finished off – much to the amusement of the students - by the teachers (attempting) to ‘floss’ together! It was a great day for the Year 12’s who have done an incredible job this year in completing their VCE studies! Congratulations and best of luck with their exams which commenced last Wednesday!

Year 11 Support Program

Last Wednesday, our College welcomed 9 Alumni back on campus! This diverse group returned as part of our Year 11 Support Program, each of them dropping into a Year 11 class to reflect on their time at school and their journey beyond. A crucial session for our Year 11's who will be facing plenty of big decisions and pressures in the near future! It was great to see alum having meaningful interactions with students, and even reconnecting with past teachers they hadn’t seen since their schooldays.

We are so appreciative of our Alumni for lending their voices and experiences to support the Year 11 students. Thank you: Nathan Taylor '11, Stacey Walsh '12, Tahlia Marcos '15, Angelina Lay '15, Adam Petruccelli '15, Paul Pesamino '17, Patrick Ng '18, Brendan Lim '18, and Kaleb Drane '18. A wonderful session ran by our Alumni Coordinators, Elise Dunstan and Jasmine Gonzalez ’16!

National Gold Rugby Camp

Congratulations to Leafi Talataina, Seb Sialau and Ngalu Kavapalu who have been selected for the National Gold Rugby Camp in Queensland for the under 16 and 17 age group! This camp is for the best 20 – 25 players in the country and our Rugby Academy is thrilled with such an outstanding representation from our students.

Unfortunately, Moses Poreo would have also been attending had it not been for his recent shoulder injury which has ruled him out of the camp. This is an amazing step for their rugby careers and Director Jimmy Orange and the Academy could not be more proud of them! Best of luck with the camp!

End of Year Music Concert

Last Tuesday, our College held the annual End of Year Music Concert. The evening was a huge success and included performances by all of our College ensembles, VCE Music Performance Band and featured soloists. We are all so very proud of our Music students and everything they have worked towards throughout 2019. We would like to thank Mr. Barker, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Pipkin, Mr. Heels, and Mr. Taylor for all of the great work they do in preparing our students and ensembles to perform at such a high standard.
