We are thrilled to receive the news that one of our students, Stefan has been selected for the Professional Academy at the Melbourne Victory Football Club! Stefan has been playing since he was eight years old, starting out with the Casey Panthers Soccer Club. Stefan is an avid fan of the Manchester City Football Club and hopes to venture into European soccer himself one day.
The Professional Academy is a fantastic opportunity for Stefan as he hopes to go on and represent Australia in the Senior Team. Melbourne Victory is providing the coaching and opportunities for Stefan to develop a professional football career with four training's each week. Congratulations Stefan and we look forward to supporting you in this exciting process!
Fountain Gate Secondary College had the pleasure of welcoming twenty-four employees from Ernst and Young (EY) on Friday the 15th of November. Each year, Ernst and Young dedicate a day to giving back to the local community by volunteering at different not-for-profit organizations and public schools with all employees giving up their time and effort company-wide. We were lucky to be one of the chosen organizations to receive this generosity!
The twenty-four employees came from a range of roles within the company including a director, senior managers, interns, industry-based learning students, managers and consultants. The twenty-four volunteers were made up of half of the I.T auditing team from Ernst and Young’s Melbourne team in the CBD. The volunteers worked closely with our College Gardener Troy on the day to help beautify our gardens by distributing mulch. The team shared three different roles which included filling the wheelbarrows with mulch, shoveling, and raking the mulch evenly over the gardens.
Fountain Gate Secondary College was so thankful for the EY volunteers support. The volunteers enjoyed a morning tea and lunch as a thanks from the College. Our garden beds look fabulous and fresh thanks to our Ernst and Young volunteers!
Last Thursday, our Year 7 Le-Mana students were given an amazing opportunity to go behind the scenes and see some Pasifika artifacts from the Melbourne Museum in their private storage facility in Moreland. The students enjoyed a full day of learning from Pasifika researchers, artists and curators on how they are looking after our Pasifika “measina” or treasures here in Melbourne. Thank you to Le-Mana CMY, Sione, Jade, Rita, Jacob and the entire Pasifika team at Melbourne Museum for having Fountain Gate Secondary College as the first school group ever to get up and close with the artifacts!
Last Wednesday, some of our Year 9 and 10 classes went to Sorrento for the day to swim with dolphins, learn about Port Phillip Bay's marine environment and understand environmentally responsible behavior. The weather was amazing but unfortunately, there were no dolphins! Students were still thrilled to swim with seals and stingrays and had the opportunity to snorkel, looking for sea dragons. This excursion enabled students to step out of their comfort zone and try something new whilst learning about marine conservation!
