I'd like to wish all Fountain Gate Secondary College Year 12 students good luck in their exams.
Our Year 12s sat their first exam on Wednesday, 31st October for English/EAL. Exams will continue until mid-November.
I would like to remind students to please be kind to yourselves and do the very best you can on the day. Get enough rest and eat well. It will all be over soon.
To all of the families and friends supporting Year 12 students, thank you and good luck.

A Valedictory dinner will be held to honour our students on the 28th of November at The Grand. I look forward to formally catching up with students and families before they commence their journey into further studies or enter the workforce. Whichever pathway our students choose, I wish them every success.

It’s Kmart’s 30th year of the Wishing Tree Appeal with The Salvation Army. More than 2.9 MILLION Australians are currently living in poverty. The appeal helps to support children, adults, seniors and families who are unable to afford gifts at Christmas and beyond. To date, the Appeal has collected more than eight million gifts.
Erik McGuire from 10B has kindly requested our school community to support the Kmart Wishing Tree by donating gifts directly to any Kmart store.
Gifts could be: Non-Perishable Foods(Cans), Clothing, Toiletries, Books, Colouring Book, Board Games, Sanitary Products or anything else.
This would be a great opportunity for our school to give to the community and help support those living in poverty.
Monday 22nd October saw the opening of the VCE Arts Exhibition in PA1, where all work produced tirelessly throughout the year by our talented students from Art and Visual Communications and Design were on display. Shivani Chaudhary of 12B received the coveted 'Student Acquisition Award of 2018' where she will receive a cash prize and have her artwork purchased by the school for permanent display. Amazing work, Shivani.
The Arts Department would like to thank all the staff, students and parents that came on the night to support the amazing Art/VCD students of FGSC, it was amazing to see all the talent in one space.
Congratulations to the students of the 2018 Problem Solving Team S.A.N.I.T.Y. (Solving situational ANxiety In Today’s Youth) Elijah Attrill, Jesse Bell, Aisa Kaltak, Mackenzie Morrison, Alex Verhagen and Sam Verhagen who placed second in their division in the National Finals. Competing in the Middle Division of the Community Problem Solving Program, our students had to speak with a panel of judges about their project for approximately 15 minutes as well as present a written report, scrapbook, multimedia presentation, and display booth.
Team S.A.N.I.T.Y. has earned an invitation to compete at the International Future Problem Solving Competition at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, USA (scheduled for June 2019), due to their success at the National Finals. Fantastic job!
Our talented FGSC students performed their hearts out in the school production of 'Grease'. Congratulations and well done to the cast and crew who performed beautifully. Thank you to our staff and to all of those who assisted with the production. Your efforts and hard work do not go unnoticed.
On Wednesday the 24th of October, Year 7 German students experienced the fun of “Oktoberfest” here at school. They had researched the history and traditions of Oktoberfest and Karneval at the end of Term 3.
During periods 3 and 4, the year 7s were entertained by an “Oompah Band” called Schwarzwald Band. The band played traditional German music and interacted with our students to play a song with cow bells, attempt yodelling and learn some “Schuhplattler” (traditional folk dance) moves. The band finished with some crowd pleasers such as the Chicken Dance and the Macarena, which had many students up dancing.
While the band was playing, students also enjoyed a hot lunch of different kinds of German sausages (Bratwurst, Frankfurter and Weißwurst), Bretzeln and Apple Crumble or Plum Crumble.
In the afternoon, students had different choices between a “World Cup” Soccer Tournament, Gingerbread-heart biscuit decorating, “Karneval” Mask decorating and a German Trivia Quiz. Students thoroughly enjoyed these workshops and each student received a gingerbread heart biscuit to enjoy or take home as a memento.
