I am pleased to introduce to the College community Ms Carolyn Bamberg, our newest Assistant Principal. She joins Neil Uwins and Paul Broecker and myself in the Principal Team.
Carolyn has been a member of the Leadership Team here at the College since 2014, in the role of Literacy, Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting. She brings with her expertise in literacy and curriculum, as well as a strong connection to the students and staff at the College.
“I grew up in Kinglake, 50km north of Melbourne, with my parents, my older brother and sister. I had a strong interest in teaching from a young age, and studied Arts and Education at University. I began teaching in 2006, teaching English, Literature and Legal Studies each year. My real interest in leadership and literacy began in earnest in 2010, where I undertook leadership courses and my Masters of Literacy at University of Melbourne. I found my real home here at Fountain Gate in 2014, and have loved working with kids and staff to grow the College to where it is today. I am a proud mother of two children who keep me very busy, but wouldn’t have it any other way.
I can’t wait to be part of the Principal Team in such an exciting time for the College. I look forward to meeting and connecting with more members of our community, so please don’t be shy in dropping in to say hello.”
Ms Carolyn Bamberg

LESS THAN 4 WEEKS UNTIL DEPARTURE!
On Thursday the 6th of December, ten students and three staff members will be travelling to Cambodia for a life-changing experience. This journey has been in the planning stages for almost a year now, and we’re all excited that it is finally approaching time for departure.
Students will be spending some time exploring all that Cambodia has to offer. In addition to seeing the major sites, students will also spend five days building a house to donate to a local family in need.
The main focus of our Cambodian travel is to do what we can to support what is one of the world’s poorest and most under developed countries through our service project. To complete our house build, the students were required to raise nearly $4,000 for materials and professional assistance. Throughout the year students have worked tirelessly to raise the funds for this trip through selling chocolates, raffles and seeking donations from local businesses. As a result of student’s hard work, we have successfully raised the funds required with just a month to go until departure! Thank-you all for your contribution and support!
Students and staff on this trip will also get an opportunity to explore Cambodia for a few days before beginning our service project. We will be visiting Phnom Penh’s Free the Bears Sanctuary, whereby we will become a keeper for a day and get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to care for the over 120 rescued sun bears and moon bears. We will then move onto Skuon Village where we will get the opportunity to experience a local delicacy that the town is famously named after…spiders!!! Lastly, before completing our house build we will get the opportunity to visit Angkor Wat, one of the world’s largest religious monuments built in the 12th century during the reign of Suryavarman II.
The staff members accompanying this trip are Matt Miller (Head of Senior School), Steven Kehayas (VCE Student manager) and Matt Hodgson (VCE Sub School Assistant and Former Student).
The students attending this trip are Alex Mcleod (10), Judith Te’o (12), Tara Soltani (11), Sara Saadati (11), Mason Edge (9), Jamie Ross (10), Mikayla Camilleri (11), Joivarne Paul (10), Tia Rice (11) and Jazmyn Norton (9).
Staff, students and the Fountain Gate Secondary College community would like to greatly thank our sponsors for financially supporting our upcoming journey. Please make sure you support these businesses in return.
We look forward to giving you all an update upon their return.
Our 2019 Student Planners have arrived and they look fantastic!
Thank you to Miss Byers and all the students who helped contribute to the re-design of our Planner.
Year 7 - 12 Planners are available for purchase from the Finance Office for $16 each. They are a compusory item for all students.
In week 5, Year 9 PreCAL students attended an overnight camp at The Summit, in Trafalgar. The Summit is a multi-award winning, 50 acre outdoor adventure park with a primary focus on providing inspiring and life changing experiences through a combination of meaningful programs and powerful activities that build self-worth, character, success and happiness.
Our students drew on their team work skills to complete several activities, such as the Giant Swing, the Leap of Faith, Laser Skirmish and a Monster Course. At the end of the camp, 5 students were acknowledged for their constant encouragement of their classmates and were chosen to ride in an army tank to crush a car. Overall, the camp was a huge success and will now be looked to be run as a 3 day camp for year 10s in Term 3 2019.
Mr Anderson ran a Chess Club at Fountain Gate Secondary College on the 8th of November. Congratulations to the following students who attended the Chess Club;
