Co-curricular activities provide enjoyable and challenging experiences that enhance and maximise students’ learning. Participation in these co-curricular activities is normally run outside the classroom predominately at lunch, before school or after school.

COMPETITIONS

Students are encouraged and supported to participate in national subject based competitions including Australian Mathematics Competition, Australian Stock Exchange Competition, and National Science Competition. In English, school based activities are held in the areas of writing, poetry, public speaking and debating which lead to participation in regional competitions.

INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM

Students have the opportunity to learn woodwind, brass, drums (percussion), piano, guitar and singing. Once a student achieves a suitable standard on their instrument they are encouraged to join the school bands and ensembles. Students in the High Achievers program are also required to learn a wind or brass instrument when they commence the program.  Our extensive program allows students to gain nationally recognised music qualifications in instrumental performances. Opportunity is provided for students to gain extensive performance experience through involvement in school assemblies, Presentation Nights and ‘Creative and Performing Arts Nights’.

PUBLIC SPEAKING AND DEBATING

Inter-school Debating Competition:

Fountain Gate senior students can enter in the DAV Inter-school Debating Competition, which is the largest English speaking debating competition in the world. Students work together in teams to build up a case debating controversial topics relevant to todays’ society. They are guided and coached to develop their skills of communication, as well as their ability to think critically and analytically. Debating offers you important argumentative and persuasion skills and teaches you how to be an effective speaker, using language in a fluent and clear manner to be understood by your audience. It also helps to encourage good team work and a sense of self-achievement.

Our school encourages and celebrates the success of our talented students in the sporting field. Students have the opportunity to participate in individual and team competitions in a variety of sports, including the Rugby and Soccer Sports Academy.  Students will be invited to try out for our interschool sports teams to compete in competitions playing sports such as Basketball, Netball and Table Tennis.
