Cost of the program

The annual fee of only $160 per year gets your child:

  • A position in a College Ensemble based on their instrument and teacher recommendation.
  • All ensembles rehearse weekly outside of class time and are directed by one of the music staff.
  • Weekly lessons on their chosen instrument. Lessons are run on a rotating timetable during class time so students don’t miss the same lesson every week.

Based on a ten week term, this fee equates to $4 per lesson. Most schools and music studios charge upwards of $30 per lesson. Our College believes that music is an important part of a young person’s life, so we strive to make it accessible to as many students as possible. We also hope that the subsidised lesson fee will assist in purchasing an instrument for your child, so they can practise regularly at home.

Instrument Purchase

If you are considering purchasing your child an instrument (new or second-hand), our specialist music teachers are the best people to contact before purchasing. We can recommend brands, music shops, and give you a list of things to “look out for” if you are planning on purchasing second hand.

We believe that buying an instrument is the best gift you can give your child, as you will be giving them a gift they can enjoy for the rest of their lives (and, if taken care of, won’t need replacing!)

Instrument Hire

Instrument hire can be arranged by contacting the Music Coordinator. Hire is available to Instrumental Music Students for the following instruments:

  • Clarinet
  • Flute
  • Saxophone (alto, tenor, and baritone)
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Euphonium
  • Bass Guitar

Please be aware that we have a limited number of instruments, and first preference is allocated to Year 7 High Achiever Program students, as this program is a part of their enrolment in HAP. We strongly encourage that students purchase their own instruments, as this can be more cost effective in the long term.

The cost of hire can be influenced by a few factors. You can find details of the annual costs in the table below (prices may change):
