This certificate provides an entry-level qualification for students interested in developing the technical, creative and performance skills required for a career in the dance and live performance industry. Students focus on developing foundational dance techniques, artistic expression, performance preparation and industry knowledge across a range of dance styles and performance contexts.

Students will build practical skills in dance performance, fitness and conditioning, audition techniques and live performance preparation while developing confidence, creativity and teamwork in a supportive studio environment.

Aims

Provides participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects within the dance and live performance industry.

  • Gives students an introductory overview of dance performance, choreography and creative arts industry practices.
  • Provides a strong base for future dance, performing arts and entertainment related studies and career pathways.

Assessment

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the VCE VET program Unit 3 & 4 sequence must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment.

Additional VCE VET Information

VCE VET is based on applied learning, combining theory with practical experience relevant to real workplaces. Students develop industry-specific skills that prepare them to be job-ready from day one.

Key Course Information

  • Students are expected to demonstrate competency in at least two dance styles listed below. 
    • Classical
    • Lyrical
    • Jazz
    • Contemporary
    • Hip Hop / Street
  • Students may be required to complete an audition as part of the selection process for entry into this certificate.
  • Classes may be scheduled outside normal school hours and may include offsite practical assessments and/or industry-based activities.
  • Some courses require students to purchase and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for practical classes. Students who do not attend in the correct PPE may be removed from class due to workplace safety requirements.
  • Students are required to bring a fully charged laptop to every VET class.
  • Students enrolled in a VCE VET program must successfully complete the LLN (Literacy and Numeracy) assessment to participate in the course.
  • Successful completion of all units of competency is required to achieve the full certificate qualification.
  • Students must successfully complete all Year One units before progressing to the second year of the program.
