Provides students with the practical skills and knowledge required to work within the sport and recreation industries. Students develop skills in coaching, recreation leadership, group facilitation and customer service while gaining industry experience through practical activities and simulated workplace environments.

Students will build advanced skills in sport coaching, recreation session delivery, group facilitation, risk management and workplace safety. The course also explores the use of technology in sport and recreation and prepares students for scored assessment tasks aligned with VCAA standards.

  • Provides participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects within the sport and recreation industries.
  • Gives students an introductory overview of sport coaching, recreation program delivery and workplace practices within the recreation industry.
  • Provides a strong base for future sport, fitness, recreation and exercise science related studies and career pathways.

Assessment

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the VCE VET program Unit 3 & 4 sequence must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment.

Additional VCE VET Information

VCE VET is based on applied learning, combining theory with practical experience relevant to real workplaces. Students develop industry-specific skills that prepare them to be job-ready from day one.

Key Course Information

  • Students must successfully complete Year One of the certificate before progressing to Year Two.
  • Classes may be scheduled outside normal school hours and may include offsite practical assessments andor industry-based activities.
  • Some courses require students to purchase and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for practical classes. Students who do not attend in the correct PPE may be removed from class due to workplace safety requirements.
  • Students are required to bring a fully charged laptop to every VET class.
  • Students enrolled in a VCE VET program must successfully complete the LLN (Literacy and Numeracy) assessment to participate in the course.
  • Successful completion of all units of competency is required to achieve the full certificate qualification.
  • Students must successfully complete all Year One units before progressing to the second year of the program.
