Year 10 is a pivotal stage in every student’s educational journey, marking a critical point where decisions begin to shape future career and study pathways. At Fountain Gate Secondary College, we have designed a supportive curriculum to guide students through these important choices with confidence and clarity.

Throughout their schooling so far, students have participated in a variety of activities across different subjects aimed at building their understanding of possible future careers. As they transition into Year 10, students are expected to take greater ownership of their learning and begin making informed decisions about their academic pathways.

Subject selection plays a key role in this process. Students are encouraged to choose subjects that align with their interests, strengths, and long-term goals. These selections will form the basis of their course of study for the year and contribute to shaping their senior school program. It is important to note that the 2027 timetable will be created based on these choices, and changes to subjects will only be possible under exceptional circumstances.

Students and families are encouraged to have meaningful discussions about future options and explore how subject choices can support career aspirations. In addition to speaking with teachers and year-level coordinators, students are strongly advised to engage with the Careers and Pathways Team.

To support students in this important process, every Year 10 student will participate in an individual Course Counselling Appointment. These one-on-one career interviews are a valuable opportunity to receive personalised advice and ensure subject selections align with future goals.

Year 10 brings both exciting opportunities and significant responsibilities. By making thoughtful, well-informed decisions now, students can establish a strong foundation for success in their senior years and beyond.
