This certificate provides an entry-level qualification for students interested in developing the practical skills and knowledge required for a career in the electrotechnology and energy sector. Students focus on workplace safety, sustainable energy practices, electrical fundamentals and the use of tools, equipment and materials commonly used within the industry.

Students will build hands-on skills in assembling and dismantling components, solving basic electrical problems, working safely with electrical equipment and applying sustainable energy solutions in residential and workplace settings.

  • Gives students an introductory overview of electrical and energy sector pathways, workplace safety and industry practices.
  • Provides a strong base for future electrotechnology, engineering and renewable energy related studies, apprenticeships and traineeships.

Further Studies in the Field

This VCE VET course is a recognised pre-apprenticeship and provides a strong foundation for a career in the electrical and energy industries. Many employers prefer or require students to complete a pre-apprenticeship before commencing an apprenticeship.

Assessment

This program is not a scored study. Students who successfully complete the Unit 3 & 4 sequence will receive one ATAR increment, which is calculated as 10 per cent of the fourth-ranked study score from the student's 'top four' Unit 3 & 4 studies.

Additional VCE VET Information

VCE VET is based on applied learning, combining theory with practical experience relevant to real workplaces. Students develop industry-specific skills that prepare them to be job-ready from day one.

Key Course Information

  • Students are required to enrol in VCE Foundation Maths or higher as part of his certificate.
  • Classes may be scheduled outside normal school hours and may include offsite practical assessments and/or industry-based activities.
  • Some courses require students to purchase and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for practical classes. Students who do not attend in the correct PPE may be removed from class due to workplace safety requirements.
  • Students are required to bring a fully charged laptop to every VET class.
  • Students enrolled in a VCE VET program must successfully complete the LLN (Literacy and Numeracy) assessment to participate in the course.
  • Successful completion of all units of competency is required to achieve the full certificate qualification.
  • Students must successfully complete all Year One units before progressing to the second year of the program.
