In Year 9 Humanities, students examine the human-related systems and processes that have shaped the world. Through the Humanities, students investigate people’s interconnections with society, groups and other individuals and with built and natural environments. 

Four specific strands (topics) are covered in Year 9 Humanities, which consists of the following: 

  • Civics and Citizenship 
  • Geography  
  • History 
  • Business and Economics  

What You Will Learn

Skills are learnt through four specific strands, which consists of the following: 

Term 1 Civics

In Term 1, Year 9 Students will learn about Civics and Citizenship (Government, democracy, and the citizen) 

  • Investigating contemporary civics and citizenship issues
  • Evaluating democratic institutions and systems
  • Participating in civic processes
  • Communicating

Term 2 Geography

In Term 2, Year 9 Students will learn about Geography (Biomes, Food Security & The Interconnected World) 

  • Ask questions using geographical methods
  • Collecting, recording and representing information and data; using geospatial technologies and digital tools
  • Interpreting and analysing data and information
  • Evaluating and decision-making
  • Proposing strategies or responses
  • Communicating conclusions.

Term 3 History

In Term 3, Year 9 Students will learn about History (World War One) 

  • Develop and apply historical questions
  • Identify and explain the features
  • Content and context of historical sources
  • Evaluate the information about interpretations and perspectives they contain as evidence.
  • Analyse the short and long-term factors that contributed to continuity and change 

Term 4 Business and Economics

In Term 4, Year 9 Students will learn about Business and Economics (Understanding the global economy, strategies to manage financial risks, and the changing work environment) 

  • Develop and modify questions to investigate contemporary economic and business issues.
  • Locate, select and analyse information and data from a range of sources for relevance and reliability.
