In Art Making and Exhibiting, students explore creative materials and techniques including: 

  • Drawing
  • Painting 
  • Mixed media
  • Sculpture and ceramics  

Students will take part in studio activities inspired by contemporary artists and popular art styles. A strong focus of the course is creative exploration, allowing students to build confidence while developing their own artistic style and ideas. Students also investigate how artists prepare, present and display artworks within exhibitions and gallery spaces while exploring how visual language can communicate ideas and meaning.

Through practical workshops and studio activities, students develop skills in: 

  • Acrylic painting techniques
  • Watercolour painting techniques
  • Tonal rendering
  • Colour mixing
  • Layering
  • Blending
  • Composition and surface decoration 

Students explore different artistic styles and creative processes while learning how to communicate ideas and personal expression visually. They also develop introductory ceramics skills including : 

  • Clay construction  
  • Joining methods 
  • Decorative surface techniques used to create sculptural artworks
