In Year 9 Drama, students are introduced to a range of performance styles and related conventions. Students focus on performance skills and explore the playmaking process by devising both onstage and offstage components of process drama.  

This unit also works on the methods behind analysing students' work and the works of professional drama performers. 

Please note that this unit has both practical and theoretical components. 

What You Will Learn

Students will take part in workshops that develop skills in the creation of character using expressive skills, extracting and analysis of performance styles whilst creating an original performance 

Workshops will be in the Performance Styles of: 

  • Poor theatre
  • Physical Theatre and Verbatim Theatre
  • Expressive and Performance Skills
  • Transformation of Character
  • Use of Dramatic Elements and Conventions 
  • Rehearsal and Refinement 
  • Teamwork and collaboration 

Assessment Tasks

CAT 1: Devising Ensemble - Students recreate a montage that explores the stimulus material. They create scenes that parallel the underlying narrative of stimulus material and create an advertising campaign that intends to communicate this. 

CAT 2: Playmaking Techniques – Students create an individual design folio for a chosen area of production that aligns with their process drama work
