In Year 9 Digital Technologies, students engage with a range of real-world problems using software development, 3D design and cybersecurity principles. They learn to break down challenges by defining functional and non-functional requirements. They outline what solutions need to do (functional) and how they should perform (non-function) – like speed, security, and user-friendliness. Students begin to think critically about user experience (UX) and design. They explore coding algorithms and how to evaluate different approaches. This year lays the groundwork for software development by introducing modular programs, where they build code in smaller, reusable sections.
As part of this course, students will engage with, and learn, the basic functions of several different programs and programming languages. Through collaborative teamwork and problem-solving, students will develop their communication and collaborative skills while also enhancing their digital literacy skills.
