Our Year 10 program is based on the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 ( https://f10.vcaa.vic.edu.au/ ) and our CORE subjects align with these expectations.
All students must study English, Mathematics, and General Science subjects, as this best prepares them for the final stage of Secondary Education. It also acts as a base for Tertiary studies, employment, and living in a 21st-century world.
From 2026, the Department of Education deemed Year 10 History compulsory, with a specific focus on World War Two and the Holocaust. History is the final academic subject in the CORE set and, together with English, Maths and Science, develops the students' critical and evaluative thinking and general knowledge.
Future Me is a Careers, Pathways and Pastoral Care subject that connects learning to real-world experiences, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to navigate their future with confidence and purpose.
The significant shift from Year 9 CORE to Year 10 CORE is that Science and History are now compulsory for a semester, and all other subjects in the Humanities as well as specialised Sciences are part of the FREE CHOICE electives. Health and Physical Education is no longer part of the CORE program; however it is an option within the GUIDED CHOICE program.
In Year 9, students selected specific subjects from The Arts and Technologies. These learning areas continue to have a wide range of choice and students are strongly encouraged to look at the subject pathways mapping table to see where each subject choice can lead.
The Arts and Technologies are vital parts of the learning program, and develop a wide range of skills, including critical and creative thinking, problem solving and project planning, and will continue to form part of the Year 10 program as GUIDED CHOICE options. These learning areas often prepare students for Tertiary studies including law, engineering, design, architecture – and should be considered as part of a strong pathway.
