Browse this guide

This elective has minimal or gentle physical requirements and aims to develop skills and knowledge about healthy bodies and minds from a Health protection and sustainable fitness perspective.

Looking after your health is about more than just being physically active, it’s about making smart choices, building strong relationships, and taking care of your overall wellbeing. Healthy Body, Healthy Mind is a Year 10 Health elective designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Students will also consider the varying stages of life and learn how health needs change during a person’s lifetime.

What You Will Learn

In this subject, you’ll explore how and why young people take risks, and learn practical strategies to make safer, more informed decisions in everyday life. You’ll also gain valuable first aid skills, giving you the confidence to respond to real-life situations and help others in an emergency. You will also look at the Australian Health Care system, and the ways and reasons Australians need and use Health Care. You will develop an understanding of the different groups (demographics) Australia has and why their needs can often require different supports. Lastly, you will compare Australia’s health to what is seen around the world.

Another key focus of the course is building respectful relationships. You’ll learn about communication, consent, boundaries, and how to develop positive, healthy connections with others.

Through interactive activities, discussions, and real-world scenarios, you’ll build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to support both your physical and mental health.

The sustainable fitness activities will suit everyone, whether you’re new to fitness or already active, this subject is designed to challenge you at your own level while helping you build lifelong healthy habits. You’ll also get the chance to step up as a leader by creating and running your own activities for the class to show how exercise can change to suit different people’s needs.

If you want to better understand yourself, make smarter choices, and feel prepared for real-life situations, this subject would be perfect for you.
