Civics & Citizenship

Browse this guide

Year 10 Civics and Citizenship is an engaging subject for students who want to understand how laws are made, how governments make decisions, and how individuals can influence change in society. Students will investigate real-world legal and political issues, explore the Australian court system, and examine the important role of the High Court in shaping laws and protecting rights. They will discover how political parties, the media, interest groups, and everyday citizens can influence government decisions and public opinion.

Through the analysis of current events and contemporary issues, students will develop critical thinking, debate, and decision-making skills while learning how to become active and informed citizens. Students will also compare Australia's system of government with a country in the Asian region, gaining a broader understanding of how different societies are governed. This subject is ideal for students who are curious about current affairs, justice, politics, leadership, and making a difference in their community and the wider world.
